OLFACTORY EXPLORATION AND NICHE PERFUMERY WORKSHOP

1st Edition: The Uncanny

In this edition, we will explore the tension between two fundamental forces: Eros, the drive of life, desire, and attraction; and Thanatos, the drive of decay, shadow, and dissolution.

Rather than thinking of death in a literal or funerary sense, we will approach the uncanny through its symbolic charge — that which both attracts and unsettles us. The point where the familiar becomes disturbing, where the vital takes on a dark tone, and the dark reveals its magnetism.

Scent will be our means of exploration. We will work with accords from the Library of Olfactory Moments and examples of contemporary perfumery to experience this tension within the body itself.

At the end of the workshop, each participant will choose one of the accords to take home, in Eau de Parfum concentration.
